Kenneth C. Paulus, Founder & CEO
Ken brings 15+ years experience within technology commercialization and private equity sectors with a focus on early-stage high-growth companies. He has worked in multiple roles within entrepreneurial development, including as startup founder, investor, educator and state policy advisor. Ken has advised leading research institutions as well as economic development agencies on the methods and programs that increase opportunities for technology commercialization and startup incubation. Most recently Ken served as EVP for Edison Nation Medical (ENM), an innovation marketplace focused on commercializing new medical innovations. In this role, Ken was responsible for the formation of ENM's joint venture partnership with Carolinas HealthCare System. Day to day, Ken led the team that managed relationships with university tech transfer offices, medical device startups and manufacturing partners. Ken is a graduate of Michigan State University.
Gary Kabot, Founder & Chairman
Gary has more than 35 years of diversified business experience, the past 27 of which have been devoted to acquisitions, start-ups and management consulting. Mr. Kabot has acquired or started approximately 40 entities in various industries, the largest achieving an annual revenue rate of $300 million within 18 months of start-up. His consulting services included management consulting and strategic planning to small to multi-national companies in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, financings, and recapitalizations. Mr. Kabot also served as a consultant with Arthur Young & Company (predecessor to Ernst & Young) and as a Partner with Gordian Consultants, a spin-off from McKinsey and Company. Mr. Kabot received his MBA from the Harvard Business School and his BS in Accounting from Cornell University.
Mimi Sardou, VP of Marketing
Mimi is thrilled to bring her marketing expertise to help launch the StandUp Walker and get it into the hands of those that it will make a difference in their mobility and independence! Prior to working for URise, Mimi was Marketing Director at Edison Nation Medical where she was responsible for developing and managing the marketing communications plan, working directly with Inventors, as well as increasing community engagement through email and social media marketing. Mimi also worked in fundraising for innovative projects at local hospital and schools and, earlier in her career, she worked at the American College of Surgeons in Marketing and Advertising for their prestigious journal and prior to that for a pharmaceutical company. Mimi has a Bachelor degree in MicroBiology & Immunology and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. She has an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
Mark Whitney, VP of US Sales
Mark brings over 30 years of sales and operations management, as well as business ownership, to URise. With over 20 years experience in medical equipment, device, and supply sales, Mark worked for two Fortune 100 and two Fortune 200 companies, in sales and sales management positions. Additionally, he has held senior sales management positions with two start-ups, spent seven years in mid-management positions in two large medical centers, and most recently was the Director of Sales for a medical company consisting of three business units: a sleep lab, durable medical equipment, and equipment supplier to nursing homes. Mark earned his BS in Health Administration from East Tennessee State University, and also attended the George Washington University School of Government and Business Administration.
